Condition

Very good, near-pristine condition. The garment shows no visible signs of heavy use whatsoever, with fabric, colour and structure remaining exceptionally well preserved.  Rib collar in excellent tight tension condition.  Hardly worn.

Archive Notes – Collector Grade

This polo features a large embroidered sleeve crest referencing a fictional “Polo R.L. Canoe & Kayak Club – Est. 1848.” The shield graphic combines a Native American profile with crossed paddles and traditional outdoor club insignia, reflecting Ralph Lauren’s long-standing fascination with early American recreational societies such as canoe clubs, rowing associations and collegiate sporting guilds.

Positioned beside the crest is a red felt pennant patch embroidered “R 32,” a regatta-style detail used to evoke race numbers and competitive club insignia. The layered crest and felt patch create a sleeve composition typical of Ralph Lauren’s narrative sport garments from this period.

The shirt is constructed from classic cotton piqué finished with a light enzyme wash, giving the fabric a softened hand and subtle broken-in handfeel.

Construction details reinforce the garment’s sporting inspiration. The polo features a contrasting red ribbed collar, a reinforced red cotton twill placket, and a quilted oval placket guard. Instead of traditional buttons, the placket uses metal snap closures engraved “Ralph Lauren Est. 1967.”

Additional athletic construction details include metal underarm ventilation eyelets, contrast cobalt blue twill tape facings inside the side-hem vents, and twill side-vent reinforcement tabs secured with contrast bartack stitching. The garment also incorporates flatlock seam construction along the shoulders, side seams and sleeve cuffs.

Label & Dating

Interior labels include the “Polo by Ralph Lauren” woven neck label paired with the Custom Fit designation, a configuration used during the later phase of the Polo by Ralph Lauren label architecture prior to the transition to the modern “Polo Ralph Lauren” branding in the early 2010s. Care labels reference Ralph Lauren Europe Sàrl (Geneva) with production in China, consistent with global Polo manufacturing during the late-2000s Polo era.
