Comme des Garçons FW98/99 double breasted jacket/ coat

This marvelous jacket/ coat is a classic example of the exclusive Avantgarde style of Japanese fashion brand Comme des Garçons. This fashion brand is launched by Rei Kawakubo. In 1981 she presented her clothing for the first time on the Parisian catwalk. Till then people were used to tailor-fitted clothing for women. The conceptual clothing items of Comme des Garçons caused an earthquake through the Western fashion world. Through the years several famous fashion designers designed in the name of the brand, for instance Yohji Yamamoto and Kei Ninomiya.

This amazing jacket/ coat is a lot more easy-going than earlier designs of Kawakubo, but the characteristic DNA of Comme des Garçons is still visible. The coat is made of 100% wool and is woven in a twill weave, this causes beautiful diagonal weave lines in the design. The coat has 2 jackets on the inside and is finished with a lining, the insert part is finished with bias-tape. The coat has a fitted shape and closes with a double breasted button-closure. For comfort, the coat has a breast pocket and 2 pockets on the front of the jacket. the most striking element in this coat is the hem! The hem is done by hand and continues in an insert-part, this optically makes the coat on the backside look like 2 jackets on top of each other. This is a really difficult ingenious pattern drawing technique that shows true craftsmanship.
